Internships Exchange Exchange students remain enrolled at the University of Melbourne and are also enrolled into a host institution overseas. Read further on how you can go on exchange.

Short-term Programs Short-term programs give you the opportunity to study overseas for weeks and experience new cultures, develop critical employability skills and prepare for a global future — all without the long-term commitment of a semester or year-long program.
This includes two funding programs: New Colombo Plan Scholarship - a prestigious award from the Australian government to fund up to a year of overseas study plus an internship in the region New Colombo Plan Mobility Grants - individual funding to support student participation in semester-exchange and short-term programs in the region.
UoM Overseas Subjects If the course in which you are enrolled makes it difficult to find a suitable semester to study overseas because of course planning issues or the requirements of your major, or if you are simply not sure about undertaking a semester abroad, the University of Melbourne has an increasing number of single subjects available in different faculties which are partly or wholly taught overseas.
You could be eligible to undertake one or more of these University of Melbourne Overseas Subjects UMOS as part of a major, or often as breadth across most degrees. To find out more about how they work, click here.
Short- term exchange options programs If you identify an overseas institution that offers a unique study opportunity which is not available at the University of Melbourne, or our extensive partner network, you may apply to study their as a fee paying student. For credit to be transferred back to a University of Melbourne degree, students must receive study plan approval from Stop 1 prior to departure.
As work experience and internships are not always formally recognised in courses at the University, many of the opportunities that exist will not carry credit or be counted as meeting hurdle requirements, but do provide a valuable experience by undertaking formal training in an international context.

Study load requirements You are eligible if you: Are on track to complete 18 points equivalent to three 6-credit point units at UWA by the end of the current semester 36 by the time you go on exchange.
